Harrogate Raiders is one of Yorkshire's longest-running basketball clubs - a community institution built on a love of the game and a commitment to making it accessible to everyone.
Our story
Founded in 1971, Harrogate Raiders has been a cornerstone of the local sporting community for over five decades. What started as a small group of basketball enthusiasts has grown into a thriving club with senior teams competing at league level and a junior academy shaping the next generation of players.
We've always believed that basketball should be for everyone - regardless of age, ability, or background. That philosophy has guided us through more than 50 years of the game, and it remains at the heart of everything we do today.
We are a community club in the truest sense — not driven by profit, not chasing prestige, just committed to making basketball accessible to the people of Harrogate and the surrounding area.

Our senior teams compete in the Leeds Basketball League. We are affiliated with Basketball England and all competitive players are registered through the PlayHQ platform.

Voise Winters
Former NBA Player · Head Coach, Harrogate Marshalls
Harrogate Marshalls is led by one of the most decorated coaches in British grassroots basketball. Voise Winters enjoyed a 16-year professional playing career spanning 18 clubs across the NBA and EuroLeague — including time with the Philadelphia 76ers and competing against basketball legend Michael Jordan.
Born in Chicago, Winters was drafted by the 76ers in the 1985 NBA Draft after a standout college career at Bradley University, where he averaged 14.2 points per game. His playing days took him across Europe — France, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK among others — before he settled in Yorkshire and turned his focus to coaching.
Perhaps most remarkably, Winters still holds the Illinois high school season scoring record — averaging 46.7 points per game in 1980–81, a record that has stood for over 45 years.
