Week One Done — What a Start for the Harrogate Marshalls
The Harrogate Marshalls have had a brilliant opening week, with strong numbers across every age group and an impressive debut on the court.
All four squads — U10, U12, U14 and U16 — have now had their first training sessions, and the early signs are very encouraging. Each session has seen over ten players on court, with coaches Charlie and Riley already receiving positive feedback from parents.
Sunday's sessions at King James's School were a particular highlight. The U12s drew an impressive 16 players for their first session — a strong sign of the appetite for basketball among young people in Harrogate.
On Saturday, the U16s made history, playing the Harrogate Marshalls' very first competitive match at home at Ashville College against Whitby Jets. Remarkably, it was only their second time training together as a squad. They gave everything in a nail-biting contest that finished 53–55 — a two-point defeat to a strong Whitby side. It was a performance the whole club can be proud of.
Well done to every player, coach, parent and volunteer who has helped make week one such a positive start. There is still everything to play for as the season gets underway.
